Develop, maintain, and refine district and building level documents detailing roles and responsibilities for staff.
- The district has identified a process and organizational chart which can be used to share with district staff which will show roles and responsibilities for all staff, with specific details for positions which require more details for staff to understand the scope of their role.
- Next step: Surveys will be sent out to respective staff members to complete in order to properly fill in the organizational chart.
Empower the Director of Teaching and Learning and Director of Career and College Preparation and Alternative Learning.
- Each of the positions has had a year to adjust to their position, with roles and responsibilities solidified for each position. Each has set meetings schedules with their respective departments and are excelling in their roles. Both work through questions and situations to ensure that the district moves forward with results for each department showing progress and success.
Improve the feedback cycle for administrators and teachers to ensure actionable information is available for professional development.
- Between the DIT, Laura Z, and Elizabeth B. the district now has an actionable feedback system where staff are required to answer questions about the professional development they received. There is a QR code shown in the last 5 minutes of the PD session where staff is required to log in and complete the answers for the PD session.
Explore current instructional practices to ensure high-quality instruction for students.
- The district and properly trained staff for the iReady math curriculum (K-8). New teacher professional development occurs annually to best instill instructional practices. Staff has been trained in the new teacher evaluation tool, Thoughtful Classroom.
- Next step: Explore common instructional practices at building levels and/or best practices per Cornerstone.
Review assessment protocols to evaluate current curriculum, instructional strategies, practices, and systems.
- The district has refined protocol assessments to improve the DIT, which more follow up on areas to improve. Qualtrics is being used to survey/assess protocol effectiveness for the district.
- Next step: Exploring a MTSS manual to better align protocols, along with an Instructional coach manual for better alignment of practices.
Assess current experiences to intentionally create unique experiences for students.

- Meaningful work has been implemented at the elementary level at all buildings. Naviance has been refined to produce a meaningful and efficient form for students and parents at the high school level. The middle school students complete a survey to better align their courses with goals.
- Next step: Career pathways are being explored for curriculum guides.
Create and implement a district activity calendar for improved engagement and communication.
- The district has created a protocol for informing our Communications Coordinator to update our webpage so that stakeholders have updated items on the site.
- Next step: Assess the process to ensure that it is efficient and effective for the district and stakeholders.
Continue to enrich community partnerships to benefit student exploration of careers.
- The high school has created a CDL and CNA program for students. The Ignite program has partnered with Route and Habitat for Humanity to create a unique learning experience for students who may find school not engaging. At the elementary and middle school levels, partnerships continue to be enriched with Work Based Learning opportunities, along with new field trips. The district has also partnered with the Critter Barn for middle school students.
- Next step: Continue forming a stronger Critter Barn relationship for FFA opportunities. Continued partnerships will be established for Ignite.
Improve marketing of PreK-12 student experiences.
- The district has created a podcast for educating the district staff, along with stakeholders on the educational opportunities for the district. Exploring online formats such as Niche to demonstrate our great programming.
- Next step: Continuing to produce more educational content for the district in the podcast format. Exploring other opportunities to promote HCS via conferences and/or online formats.
Foster each building’s unique personality to build building and community pride.
- Buildings are having conversations as to their culture and goals going forward. Buildings have embraced branding and are using it to build student and staff pride. Character development assemblies are being done monthly at buildings to educate personal traits, along with building school character and support.
- Next step: Continuing to assess effectiveness of current activities, along with continuing staff culture.
Increase experiences/opportunities to connect students, staff, and stakeholders.
- The Hometown Series has continued to grow larger, with more events becoming sponsored by the companies (podcast and Spring event). Property acquisition has connected the school district with more community partners. Educational outreaches (Critter Barn and Route) have forged more connections for students and stakeholders. The Unified program continues to grow with students and now allows for our teams to compete in a winter season of basketball against other schools.
- Next step: Assess effectiveness of current steps, along with continuing to strengthen relationships with the new community partners.
Develop a sustainable resource of student supports.
- The school district has created a list of resources for students, which school counselors have for parents and/or students. The MTSS manual is being explored at this time. Student support coordinators have been hired for student support. The high school and middle school are implementing lunch-and-learns with the distinct SRO, district nurse, and student support coordinators.
- Next step: Exploring the district nurse being full-time. MTSS manual being developed and implemented.
Develop a community actionable feedback cycle for district events.
- Conversations are being had as to how to best develop and communicate this feedback cycle.
- Next step: Move the conversation forward as to what events are eligible for assessment. Then to develop the survey and implement it into Qualtrics. Then to communicate it via events for the public to offer feedback.
Establish a system of soft skills for PreK-4, 5-8, and 9-12.
- Zones of regulation and restorative circles have been implemented at the elementary level. Formalized schedule of character assemblies for the middle school and elementary schools is being worked on. Skills for success terminology and educating are being developed and implemented. The high school is continuing to develop ways to make the Work Based Learning graduation requirement more efficient for staff and students in the realm of documentation and record keeping.
- Next step: Continuing to formalize the schedule for events and activities. Formalizing the Skills for Success for middle school. The high school staff to continuing efficiency for the WBL graduation requirement.
Explore career pathway plans for students (EDP based).
- The conversation has started as to how to best organize a section of curriculum guide(s) to show career pathways. Monthly WBL meetings occur with respective staff members. Career programs have been launched: CNA, CDL, HVAC, and the Early College Teacher program with Hope College. Additional Early College programs are being explored with Hope College.
- Next step: Follow up with Hope College as to additional Early College programs. Further discussion and exploration on Career Pathways for curriculum guides.
Define district values:
Review and improve district and building safety protocols.
- Monthly District Safety Team meetings occur to review and improve safety measures for the district. Monthly meetings occur between the SRO and Superintendent to review and continue district safety measures. Building safety maps are being reviewed and updated as necessary for each building in the district. The district emergency management guide has been developed, reviewed, and updated for the district.
- Next step: Finalize the review of current building safety plans. Print and distribute finalize safety plans for the buildings.
